Bulk Rapeseed Oil - Top 10 Reasons

There's a variety of different reasons for choosing to buy bulk rapeseed oil over the wide range of different vegetable oils out there. Whether you're simply looking for a vegetable oil to cook with in your spare time, run a restaurant or are in the food manufacture industry, we recommend using bulk rapeseed oil.

We've decided to put together this blog post with our top 10 reasons for choosing bulk rapeseed oil over other vegetable oils:

  1. Contains the lowest saturated fat content of any vegetable oil, including less than half of that in olive oil.
  2. Is a great source of Vitamin E - a natural anti-oxidant.
  3. Contains no trans fatty acids - the nasty ones which can increase the chance of cardiovascular disease.
  4. Has 10 times more Omega 3 than olive oil - Omega 3 can help to reduce your total blood cholesterol level, and as important in the function and development of the brain.
  5. Contains no artificial preservatives.
  6. Is trans-fat and GM free.
  7. Is a good source of Omega 6 and 9 - Omega 6 can help to maintain healthy skin, nails and hair and support the immune system. Omega 9 aids brain development in unborn children and has been linked to reduced rates of premature birth and low birth weights.
  8. Is suitable for a variety of different diets - Kosher, Halal, vegetarian and gluten-free.
  9. Has one of the highest smoke points of any vegetable oil - a smoke point is the temperature where the oil begins to smoke when heated. A high smoke point makes bulk rapeseed oil perfect for high temperature uses such as deep frying, wok frying and roasting.
  10. Rapeseed oil has a subtle taste making it extremely useful in a wide range of culinary applications. As a result of its light buttery taste bulk rapeseed oil is even a perfect replacement for butter in things such as breads, cakes and pastries.

As you can see there's some fantastic reasons to choose bulk rapeseed oil over other vegetable oils. Not only does it offer a variety of nutritional benefits but also a range of culinary ones too. Rapeseed oil is one of the most versatile vegetable oils available on the market.

Rapeseed Oil Suppliers - The Life of a Rapeseed Plant

Header4-940x2751
As rapeseed oil suppliers we feel it's vital that people know exactly where rapeseed oil starts from. Rapeseed (Brassica Napus) comes from the Brassica plant. Surprisingly enough this plant is part of the cabbage family and grows taller than the average person. Many of you in Britain may have spotted rapeseed fields turning our countryside into a wonderful yellow, over the past few years. During this period of flowering the rapeseed plant is only part-way through its cycle.

Larchwood Foods, one of the UK's leading rapeseed oil suppliers, plant their rapeseed (Brassica Napus) around the month of August. This is so that the plant gets a healthy amount of sunshine and rainfall. Thankfully this year due to the "indian summer" rains their crops got off to a healthy start and are at an ideal height. With the Winter months setting in this has resulted in their plants being healthy and strong ready for the tough weather.

Until this point, the Brassica Napus plant continues to grow, then during the winter period will lay dormant until early spring. When the weather begins to warm up again the rapeseed flourishes and quickly starts to grow again. By around April the rapeseed plants will begin to flower. After years and years of experience, rapeseed oil suppliers Larchwood Foods, make sure that they leave just enough room for the entire flower and stem to flourish so that the plants have an even distribution of leaves - this allows the sunlight to reach both the top and further down. This method, garnered from years of experience, guarantees mature, healthy plants.

The Brassica Napus plants then begin to fade to a light brown, losing their bright yellow colour. From here the plants are ready for the rapeseed oil suppliers to harvest, and can then go into storage for pressing, filtering, bottling and to be turned into the wonderful rapeseed oil as we know it best.

Rapeseed Oil Suppliers: Demand of Rapeseed Oil to grow

Global canola research director David Charne last week stated that the world is currently producing around 58 million tonnes of oilseed brassicas - including canola, rapeseed and oilseed mustards. However demand is expected to hit 90 million tonnes by the end of the decade - a 50 percent increase. Charne said that around 20 percent of the required growth would come from an increased sowing area, but the rest would have to come from better productivity from rapeseed oil suppliers.

David Charne said "That means the growth in yield needs to be about 3 per cent a year." Rapeseed oil suppliers in Australia are producing the biggest crop ever this season at 2.5 million tonnes. However, Australia is actually a small producer globally, only accounting for roughly 4 percent of the estimated 58.3 million tonnes globally. Europe are one of the largest at 20.8 million tonnes produced, with China and North America following with 14 million tonnes each, and India with 7 million.

That said, is a 50 percent growth in production within the next 9 years achievable or sustainable for rapeseed oil suppliers? Dr Charne has stated that we're producing 70 percent more canola today than we were 10 years ago - an impressive number. However most of this growth has been in the area sown, wheras to reach a 90 million tonne crop by 2020 most of the emphasis for rapeseed oil suppliers would be placed on genetic improvement.

October Diary

October has been a great month for us here at Larchwood Foods, one of the UK's leading rapeseed oil suppliers. We've had warm sunny days to kick off the month combined with some fantastic rainfall which has helped our Autumn crops to grow before the expected cold weather arrives.

We've had an extremely hectic planting and harvest period this Autumn, however it's now starting to settle into a more standard routine 6 day week pattern, allowing our staff their well deserved Sunday family time.

More exciting news this month - our rapeseed processing plant is nearing the end of commissioning. We're all extremely excited for the first finished batches of Mr Hugh's Gourmet and Mr Hugh's Cold Pressed Rapeseed Oil. Once we reach this point the oil should be available for distribution to our customers, we can't wait!

Overall we've been extremely happy with the level of interest shown in our products last month at the London Olympia Speciality & Fine Foods Fair. We can't wait to get our oil in the hands of consumers, and we're in the final stretch now. Be sure to keep an eye on our official site - http://www.larchwoodfoods.co.uk

Rapeseed Oil Suppliers

Based in Norfolk UK, Larchwood Foods are one of the country's largest and most respected suppliers of bulk rapeseed oil. We have a family history of farming in the area for over 200 years, and as a result have managed to perfect the process of producing our luxurious oils. We have invested strongly in the latest oil-seed processing and bottling facilities to provide the highest caliber product we possibly can.

The process we use to extract the rapeseed oil involves cold pressing - a technique where brand new technology is used to gently compress the rapeseed and release the oil from the seed itself. We feel that due to our experience of growing rapeseed for over 25 years we can proudly say we're one of the best rapeseed oil suppliers in the UK.
